by: Bobby McDonald
It was a warm June morning for those who got up early and came to the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center Parking Lot to meet the starting time of the annual 5K Milk Run. By 8:00 a.m., some 82 runners from all across Northeast Texas had made their way to the starting line. Earlier, 10 children had run in the Kids-K race that was appropriately named for their competition.

And, they're off......Runners in the 5k Race enter Houston Street and began the early moring race, Saturday.

Sisters, Elizabeth Sanders, left, and Pam Clayton, weren't in near as big of a hurry, as they began
the 5K Milk Run Course, but were spied finishing the race, nonetheless.

Sixteen minutes later, the crowd had sited the first runner making his way toward the finish-line and at 16:03, Tyler Tyndell, made the fastest time in the race.
Tyler Tyndell "bringing it home" to win the 2006 5K Milk Run
with a time of 16:03.

Following close behind, was second place winner, Dylan Rutherford,
with a time of 16:58.
And, Tate Ramirez was third place, with a nice 17:06 time.
The top female in the race was Sabra Thomas, with a 20:50 time for the race and Windy Wintermute was second with a 22:08 finish time in the race. Third place female was Alexsa Burkett, with a finish time of 23:53.
Brett Bassham, Dairy Festival Board Member and Coordinator of the race, proclaimed the race a great success and praised all of those who came out on a hot Saturday morning and participated. "The race has grown in popularity almost every year and we have people coming from all across Northeast Texas to participate," expressed Bassham. "It's a great race and everyone was really excited about all of the spectators who came out and cheered our participants to the finish line!"
On a personal note, Bassham will be leaving this week to compete in a 100 mile run in the state of Wyoming, so keep focused on Front Porch News, for Bassham's results in that race! Good Luck, Brett!
