of 2006 Class

Christina Marie Bean was named the Valedictorian of the Yantis High School Class of 2006 with a 3.8679 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. She is the daughter of Lisa Bean, of Yantis, and has excelled in basketball, volleyball, softball, and track. She served as the captain of the YHS cheerleading squad in 2005, and served as vice-president of the Beta Club. Last year she was vice-president of the YHS Student Council and was secretary of the Spanish Club in 2004. She has participated in UIL Spelling & Vocabulary, Mathematics, Number Sense, and was a member of the One-Act Play Cast, that was alternate to state competition in 2006.  Christina was Honorable Mention All-District in Basketball for 2006 and plans to attend Sam Houston State University to pursue a degree in Forensic Chemistry.

Salutatorian of the 2006 Yantis High School Class is Starla Noelle Burchfield, the daughter of Ricky and Lisa Burchfield, of Yantis. Starla accumulated a four-year average of 3.730, and has already been accepted to Texas State University in San Marcos, where she plans a career in Physical Therapy. Starla has been a district and regional champion in UIL Spelling & Vocabulary for four years, and was the 2004 State Champion. She has been a member of the Beta Club, the Spanish Club, Academic UIL, Future Farmers of America, Student Council, and G-Force Club. She served as president of the YHS FFA Chapter in 2004-05, and was the treasurer of the chapter this year. Starla has competed in volleyball, basketball, softball, golf, and tennis during her high school career.

Christina and Starla will lead the Class of 2006 in graduation exercises, on Friday, June 2, 2006, in the High School Gym, at 7:00 p.m. Speaker for the 2006 exercises will be Larry Tucker.
