Wildcat Tennis Receives
Funds For Complex Improvements

"I'm just elated at the improvements that have been made to the tennis complex at the high school," expressed Pasty Bolton, Superintendent of Schools. "Through another generous grant by the George H. Fox Family, we have been able to construct restrooms and dressing rooms, beside the tennis courts at the school.

The new restroom and dressing facilities for the Sulphur Springs High School Tennis Complex are
a welcomed addition for the tennis team, who had been forced to use the main fieldhouse on the campus.

Mr. & Mrs. Stanley Fox, son and daughter-in-law of the late Sulphur Springs tennis mentor, George H. Fox, were visiting Sulphur Springs from their home in Midland, Texas. When, they noticed that there wasn't adequate facilities at the courts, they decided to call Mrs. Bolton and become involved. According to Bolton, Stanley Fox visited with her by phone and generously sent a $10,000.00 check, a few days later. The money was used as "seed" money for the construction of the new facilities.

The Sulphur Springs High School Tennis Complex is named for longtime supporter of Sulphur Springs
Tennis, George H. Fox, whose influence continues with generous donations by his family.

"Your Prom Headquarters for all your shoes and tuxedo rentals!"

A check from the Sulphur Springs Tennis Association, in the amount of a generous $3,000.00, and $5,600.00 from the Co-curricular Capitol Projects Fund, completed the necessary over $18,000. to construct the nice facilities.

"We're most appreciative," expressed a smiling Wildcat Tennis Coach Susan Reynolds. "The tennis team was forced to use restroom and dressing facilities at the main fieldhouse and then come to practice at the tennis courts. Now, through the generous donations, we're able to have facilities of our own, that can be accessed during practice sessions and when the fieldhouse isn't open. It's just great!"

Wildcat Tennis Players use the high school courts and are the beneficiaries of the generosity of
the George H. Fox Family and the Sulphur Springs Tennis Association, who constructed the new
restroom and dressing facilities, at the school.

This isn't the first generous donation by the Fox Family to Wildcat Tennis. The Sulphur Springs High School Tennis Complex is named after George H. Fox, because of his support and dedication to the sport and a $25,000.00 memorial made to the school in his Last Will and Testament. Fox was reared in Oklahoma, where he won the state championship for Tennis. Then, he attended Missouri School of Mines on a tennis scholarship, where he was a collegiate standout. Fox moved to Sulphur Springs in the 1940's and began coaching young Sulphur Springs tennis athletes and was instrumental in supporting the Sulphur Springs Tennis Association. Fox and Ray Murray were a noted doubles team, winning the city championship.

The George H. Fox Tennis Legacy continues to live in Sulphur Springs, as his family continues the support that he began over a half-century ago.
