"Culture In The Courthouse"

Classical music lovers were treated with a concert in the Hopkins County Courthouse on Monday night, entitled "Mt. Vernon Music. Staged in the beautifully appointed District Courtroom, one performer indicated, "I feel kind of like I should be 'sworn-in' or something!" But the high ceilings and domed-shaped design of the room, added to the effects of the music.


Mark Miller was featured on the violin, during the first
section of the concert.

 



The first segment of the program featured Mark Miller, on the violin, Ute Miller, on the viola, Carol Harlos with the cello, and Steve Harlos, featured on the keyboard. The began the program with Schubert's "Allegro. Following selections included: "Rondo," "Allegretto," Fuchs'  and "Seven Fantasy Pieces for Violin, Viola, and Piano." The period was finished with three pieces by Mozart.


Ute Miller was featured in this viola piece.

 



Sulphur Springs Symphony League members provided a beautifully appointed dessert buffet, during the intermission, and allowed patrom the opportunity to visit, while the second section of the program was established in the courtroom.

 


Intermission featured a dessert buffet, furnished by members of the Sulphur Springs Symphony League.

 




The second segment of the program featured Tom Demer, as the fiddler, Steve Harlos, on the keyboard, and Drew Phelps, featured on the bass. Among the selections were "Lucy Goosey," "Sweet Sorrow," "Fiddlin' Around," and the ever popular, "The Devil Went Down to Georgia."


Rolla's "Duo Concertant" was featured in this presentation.


Steve Harlos was featured on the keyboard, during both segments of the concert.



The Sulphur Springs Symphony League features a number of concerts throughout the year, and will be again featuring the July 4th Concert on the Downtown Square, as their annual Independence Day feature. Tom Stewart, serves as the President of the Sulphur Springs Symphony League.

 


Patrons to Monday night's Symphony concert in the Hopkins County District Courtroom were
greeted with this beautiful "splash" of color, courtesey of the recent rains in Hopkins County.
