Summer Basketball Camp

With basketball spirit running high, following the District Win by the Saltillo Lady Bears in the 2005-06 season, Coach Garry Davison conducted a summer basketball camp for area girls during the week of June 12-15. Attendees worked on drills to improve technique in handling the ball, shooting free throws, and other fundamentals of the game. The camp was open to all ages and found a large group of youth interested in improving their basketball skills.

Students began the morning sessions with drills that improved "eye contact" and ball handling skills and worked on a variety of both offensive and defensive moves, while driving to the goal.

In other drills, Davison stressed the importance of accuracy in making free throws. "A game can be won or lost with the ability of each member on the team being able to shoot free throws," advised Davison. "And, the key to making free throws is practicing the drill over and over, and over!"

Davison indicated a noticeable improvement in all that attended the camp and many of the younger girls developing the fundamentals to play competitive ball, when the 2006-07 season begins.
