World Champion Rodeo
Coming To Sulphur Springs!

by: Bobby McDonald

Rodeo action in the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center on Friday night, June 9th, and Saturday night, June 10th, will feature a good number of World Champion Cowboys and Cowgirls. Winners of 35 World Championship Titles, will be participating in the weekend events.

Familiar rodeo names such as Trevor Brazile, Teddy Johnson, and Rich Skelton are just a sample of the outstanding talent "on tap" for this rodeo. Numerous National Final Rodeo Qualifiers including Johnny Emmons, Clint Cooper, Ricky Canton, Chad Hagan, Kirby Kaul, Jim Bob Mays, Boogie Ray, and J.W. Aldrich will give the crowd a distinct show. And, then of course, contestants like Houston Hutto, who not only competed at the NFR, but won the Intercollegiate Title at the national level twice, will add to the outstanding talent entered.

And, some of the most talented cowgirls will be circling the barrels in fierce competition. Some of the top contenders in Barrel Racing will compete. Kim Squires, presently ranked #18, and Cody Baucom, ranked at #11, will be challenging Sulphur Springs's own, Chainey Payne, before the hometown crowd. Chainey earned the 2005 WPRA "Rookie of the Year" Award and is presently ranked at 10th in the World. These ladies will make the Barrel Racing contest an exciting part of both Friday and Saturday's shows.

Performances begin at 8:00 p.m., each evening, with tickets available at the Hopkins County Civic Center Box Office.

PRCA Rodeo Queen Contestants are selling tickets on a 16 foot, bumper pull, trailer, for $1.00 each, to aid in financing their activities. Tickets are available at Jiffy Signs in Sulphur Springs, or can be purchased from each of the queen candidates.
