Observed on Downtown Square

Local residents in Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County joined those across the nation at noon, on Thursday, with a prayer service on the downtown square in Sulphur Springs. A proclamation was read from the steps of the Hopkins County Courthouse, and Rev. Tom Frisbee read scriptures from his Bible.

Sister Carolyn Thomas gave a brief history of the National Day of Prayer, as a day set aside to observe the power of prayer.

Local  residents bow their heads in prayer on the downtown square, as they pray for our community
and the many people who serve it.

Then, members of the audience formed small groups and prayed for local elected officials, local policemen and fire fighters, and all emergency personnel. They asked for protection for our community and the many, many people who form the nucleus of Hopkins County society.

"The national observance is to bring recognition to the power of prayer in our lives and to remind people to depend on God for help in their daily lives," expressed Thomas.
