Miller Grove FFA
Stew & Auction
Termed Success
by: Bobby McDonald
As a cool front moved across Hopkins County, on Friday night, parents, friends, and supporters of the Miller Grove FFA, began assembling at the Old School Gym for the annual FFA Stew and Auction fundraiser. "With the temperatures getting cooler, stew sounds pretty good," exclaimed one supporter waiting in line for his bowl.

Two of the "top" Miller Grove Stew cooks were Glen George and Louis Russell.

And, these Miller Grove FFA members made certain everyone had plenty of tea and water to drink.
Friends of the FFA Chapter had been cooking Hopkins County Stew in washpots all day long and had the famous concoction ready for serving by 5:00. The large crowd consumed three washpots of the Hopkins County favorite, along with homemade desserts, cheese, and crackers.

Area Hopkins County businesses donated a variety of items to the auction portion of the Miller Grove
FFA fundraising activity.

Leslie Wagley, President of the Miller Grove FFA, welcomed the many guests
to Friday night's auction and stew.
The auction began at 6:30 and a variety of items donated by Hopkins County businesses, as well as a wide array of shopmade items, constructed in the Vocational Agriculture Shop, were sold to the highest bidder. Murphy Howle served as the auctioneer and over $9,000.00 was raised to support the activities of the Miller Grove FFA for the 2006-07 school year. "We use the money to fund trips, send students to the State and National Convention, and to a variety of contests in public speaking, parliamentary procedure, and judging teams, " explained veteran Vo Ag Teacher, Richard Watson. "This fundraising activity began back in 1972, in Sulphur Springs, when I was an Agriculture Teacher there, and we've continued to use it successfully, here in the Miller Grove Chapter."

Auctioneer Murphy Howle, accepts bids and works to get the most of a variety of items offered in
the Miller Grove FFa fundraiser.
And, a large crowd of supporters "opened their pocketbooks" and purchased the items in support
of the Miller Grove FFA.
