September Front Porch News
Landscape of the Month"
Awarded
To Kyle Street Residence

by: Bobby McDonald

Drive by the beautiful 119 Kyle Street residence of Paul and Peggy Baise and feast your eyes upon the lovely landscaping that garnered them the Front Porch News Landscape of the Month Award, for September. Paul and Peggy have lived at the address for about one year and spend their time planting flowers, mowing the grass, and making certain that the landscape has been watered during the drought conditions that have existed this summer.

Sue Hawkins McClure, right, of Front Porch News, visits with Peggy and Paul Baise in their front
yard on Kyle Street. The simple landscape is tastefully done and features a variety of flowers, both
annual and perennial.

The Baise landscape features Blue Daze, Chinese Fringe Flowers, Penta, Periwinkles, Portulacca, Purslane, and Hardy Ageratum. Boxwoods and other shrubs are strategically placed to add height to the beds and an evergreen background. And, Crepe Myrtles are in profuse bloom during these hot days of late summer.

These colorful Periwinkles are featured in a lovely bed on the east side of the home.

Containers of Bougainvillea and a variety of ferns are used as accents in the
landscape and around the front porch.

"Dynamite", a relatively new variety of Crepe Myrtle, is featured in front
of the home. The couple have also purchased a deep purple miniature Crepe
Myrtle that will be planted when temperatures moderate.

And, Purslane makes for a colorful addition to this bed that is featured
around a young Red Oak tree in the front lawn.

In awarding the honor to Paul and Peggy Baise, the decision was based on a limited amount of water usage and the fact that even though drought conditions had existed all summer, the couple continued to make their landscape attractive.

Front Porch News plans to award a "Landscape of the Month" award each month and asks that when you see a particularly beautiful or unusual place in our area, you e-mail us a nomination. We'll send our judges out and who knows, your nomination might be the next winner.
