Attracts Large Crowd

by: Bobby McDonald

Medical, emergency, and firefighter crews were among the many exhibitors who made their way to the Sulphur Springs High School parking lot, on Saturday, to raise awareness of the many services available to make our community a safe place to live, work, and play. A large crowd of community residents took advantage of the opportunity to personally become acquainted with the many individuals who devote their lives to community safety.

This police "hot rod" was a favorite stop for both children and adults.

And, local policeman, Gordon Fulcher, left, explained the many safe driving tips to those who
viewed the racing machine.

Hopkins County Memorial Hospital had a large group of employees on hand to promote their many programs and to promote wellness to the community. A favorite attraction was their mini-ambulance, that remotely maneuvered through the crowd and reminded residents to "play it safe!"

Hopkins County Memorial Hospital's mini-ambulance traveled among the crowd and promoted
health safety, on Saturday.

Who could better tell you about the many stinging and biting pests that you might encounter in your lawn or garden? Well, it was the Master Gardeners, who had a giant display of the effects of wasp stings, fire ant bites, and a variety of potential dangers around the home and garden. The Master Gardeners delivered a variety of information about treating injuries received from common garden pests.

These local residents attended the Master Gardener's booth to learn all about treating bites by
common household and garden pests.

And, Saturday's activities weren't all about the dangers that might be "lurking" in the community. There was plenty of fun and games for everyone to enjoy, as a variety of activities that required children's participation were available.

Mary Humphrey, right, joined her friend in finding this loveable character,
at Saturday's event.

And, many found the hair-painting booth, to get a "dye" job!

And, Cherish Bolton, right, made a friend with McGruff The Crime Dog!

Many organizations, such as the Pilot Club, offered a variety of programs that told of the many ways that they help the community. The Pilot Club sponsors a variety of events that deal with brain related injuries and the prevention of accidents that can cause brain related injuries.

The Pilot Club explained their local community involvement from this booth at Saturday's event.

Patrons at Saturday's Kids Safe Saturday event were treated to exhibitions that reflected the many emergency services available to those who find themselves in need of trained personnel.

Care-Flight Services were demonstrated from this helicopter that was located on the high school
football practice field.

Whether it's a pet cat or a rescue from a burning building, this lift could afford you a safe delivery
to the ground.

Local ambulance services  provided patrons with the steps that would be used should an accident
occur and their services were needed.

One local resident summed-up Saturday's activities by relating, "After having visited with the many people in the Hopkins County Area, who devote their lives to the safety of our community, I feel much safer and know that the services are available if per chance I needed them. Let's all of us hope we don't need them!"
