Named To State All-Star Team

Both Cumby Trojan Baseball Team Catcher, Jake Petty, and Trojan Coach, Scott Mabe, were all smiles on Thursday, as they received word that Petty had been named to the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association 2006 Class 1A-3A All-Star Baseball Team. Petty, a 2006 senior at Cumby High School, has been a starter for the Trojan Baseball Team all four years of high school and has been a key member of the team.

"I can't think of a better way to end your high school career," expressed Coach Mabe. "And, it couldn't have happened to a better guy. Jake works hard and has been a key element in the Cumby Athletics Program."

Petty, the son of Johnny and LuAnn Petty and Denise and Steven Null, has been a member of the Trojan Baseball, Football, Basketball, and Golf Teams, and says that he is undecided about what he will do following graduation. "I just plan to see what things look like, following a few days rest from the books, and then will make-up my mind about what to do in the future," expressed Petty.

"It's a great honor to be named to this prestigious team and to represent the Cumby Trojans on the state level," continued Petty. "I've always enjoyed sports and began playing T-ball in Sulphur Springs on the Buster Paving Team! I guess I've always enjoyed baseball!"

The Cumby Trojans Team, which also featured Petty's twin brother, Josh, were runner-ups in district play, completing the season with a 9-3 District Record, and a 13-8 season, in 2006.

Petty began his high school baseball career playing third base on the Trojan Team, his freshman and sophomore years, and then moved to the catcher position, last year as a junior. He will be playing catcher on the All-Star Team.

The All-Star Game will be played in Round Rock, Texas, on June 17th, 2006, and will begin play at 12:00 noon, according to information that Mabe received from the State Coaches Association. "We hope there will be a large group of Hopkins County residents that will go and watch Jake play in this game," stated Mabe. "It isn't very often that you have a high school athlete that makes it this far, during their career!"

Earlier this week, Jake was named Trojan Athlete of the Year, at the 2006 Cumby High School Booster Club Sports Banquet, for his excellence in all sports.

Congratulations, Jake
On a Great Honor!
