Celebrated At
68th Annual SS FFA Banquet

Some 250 members and guests assembled in the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center on Thursday night, to attend the 68th Annual Sulphur Springs FFA Banquet and celebrate the blessings afforded them through the prusuit of agricultural and youth endeavors in this community. Toastmasters for the evening were dual FFA Presidents Alina Tatum and Candace Vanwinkle. The invocation was lead by Meredith Massey and the banquet was opened with the official FFA Opening Ceremony and presentation of flags.

Three scholarships were presented to Candace Vanwinkle, Alina Tatum, and Stacey Flora, seniors in the organization. Vanwinkle won the $500.00 Sterling and Eva Beckham Memorial Scholarship and Tatum and Flora were each awarded a $200.00 Cecil Tucker Memorial Scholarship for their outstanding FFA work.

Two community leaders, Kevin Gibson and Charles Cash, both local businessmen, were selected to receive Honorary Membership in the Sulphur Springs FFA Chapter and joined a distinquished group of past honorees. The two men were sited for their help in aiding the students in their ag mechanics projects and preparation for the state contests each year. Both were awarded a placque and praised for their dedication and service.


Charles Cash, owner of Sulphur Spring Hydraulics, was sited for his many contributions ot the
FFA Chapter, and awarded a placque by Candace Vanwinkle.


Local CAD draftsman, Kevin Gibson, was awarded the Honorary Chapter
Farmer Degree, for his many hours of aid to the local ag mechanics program,
and presented an award by Alina Tatum.

Local Vocational Agriculture Teacher, John Boles, presented the Proficiency Awards to the outstanding students in all fields of agriculture, as he commented on their tireless efforts and devotion to their particular project areas.


This group of outstanding FFA students received Proficieny Awards in their project areas, at the 68th Annual
Sulphur Springs FFA Banquet, Thursday night.

Award winners and their project areas at the 2006 Banquet were: Caylan Ashmore, Ag Mechanics Energy Systems; Sam Dolan, Ag Mechanics Repair and Maintenance; Mat Ragan, Ag Mechanics Design and Fabrication; Jimmy Helfridge, Ag Mechanics Technology; Mitch Self, Beef Cattle Production; Mat Ragan, Swine Production; D.J. Cumberland, Poultry Production; Alina Tatum, Diversified Livestock; Sam Dolan, Turf Management; Robert Russell, Forage Production; Kevin Mabe Wildlife Management; Breanna Vasquez, Equine Production; Stacey Flora, Specialty Animal Production; John Holland, Dairy Production; Katie Price, Sheep Production; Koyt Koon, Star Greenhand; John Holland, Star Chapter Farmer; and Alina Tatum, FFA Member of the Year. Krista Coleman was awarded Officer of the Year, by her fellow officers and Kattie Foster was selected at the Outstanding Co-op Student. Chea Townsend was selected as the Outstanding Greenhand and was awarded the Ken Pogue and Randy Shaefer Memorial Award.


Koyt Koon was selected as the Star Greenhand and John Holland received the Star Chapter Farmer Award.

 


Caylan Ashmore received the Ag Mechanics Energy Systems Award.


Alina Tatum was selected "FFA Member of the Year" at Thrusday night's banquet.

The officers of the Sulphur Springs FFA Chapter recognized their parents and then presented a "This Year In Reveiw" power-point presentation, highlighting all the many activities of the Sulphur Springs FFA Chapter. The Banquet was closed with the offiical Closing Ceremonies, where everyone was asked to salute the U.S. Flag.
