Salute To Fathers
Sunday, June 18th

by: Bobby McDonald

Respect, honor, and admiration are just a few of the terms that most of us think of when we think of our fathers! And, the third Sunday in June is reserved as one day a year that everyone pauses to honor "Dear Ol' Dad" for the many, many contributions that he has made in our lives and to take a moment to reflect on the role of fathers.

Michael Lawrence proudly holds his 2006 Father's Day gift,
Landri Lawrence, who made her arrival just three weeks ago.

He's the one that provided for our family from birth to adulthood, took us fishing, and complained that our hair was too long, as a teenager. But, he was the first one we called if we really found ourselves in trouble and needed a friend. He was the one that stood by us, regardless of what we had done and loved us unconditionally, even when it would have been much, much easier to turn his back and run!

My favorite description of fathers goes something like this, "Anyone can sire a child, but it takes someone very special to be a Daddy!"

And, Landri has many "fathers" to welcome her to this annual celebration, front row, Pete McDonald,
great-grandfather, Brodie Koon, great-grandfather, and father, Michael Lawrence. Back Row, Paul Lawrence,
great-grandfather, Weldon DeWitt, grandfather, and David Lawrence, grandfather.

Sunday, June 18th, is the day reserved to honor our fathers and tell them just how special they are to us. And, probably the day that most father's would rather not get that "loud" tie, and make a trip to the hardware or electronics store to buy what he really, really would rather have. But, he'll "grin and bear it," just because he loves us anyway, despite our shortcomings!

If you don't live nearby, pick up the phone and give "Dear Ol' Dad" a call to wish him a Happy Father's Day, and let him know how special he is in your life!

Happy Father's Day!
