When many of the residents of Hopkins County are focused on the upcoming Hopkins County Dairy Festival, another group of local citizens are already making plans for the Hopkins County Fall Festival, held in mid-September. The Fall Festival Board hosted a "tailgate party" with Hopkins County Stew and all the trimmings, on Tuesday night, as they recruited interested individuals to aid in promoting and conducting the annual fall fair.

Members of the board visited with interested individuals as they enjoyed a pleasant summer evening in Buford Park and ate some of the best stew, this side of the Sulphur River. A number of citizens showed interest in working to promote the county fair and the many, many activities that are conducted during the ten day event.

Randy and Darla Reed enjoy a dinner of Hopkins County Stew and share some of the many activities
of the annual Hopkins County Fall Festival.
"This is a great way for someone new to Hopkins County to become involved in their community," expressed Darla Reed, former chairman of the organization. "By becoming involved, you meet many other interested individuals and there is no better way to become involved!"

In addition to livestock shows, a quilt show, parade, household arts division, and all varieties of divisions, the annual Hopkins County Stew Contest will be conducted during the annual fair. Local girls will be competing for the coveted "Cover Girl" title, where girls perform a variety of events that prove they are truly a "Hopkins County Young Lady."

Gayle Spearman, a former Cover Girl Contestant of Pickton enjoys stew, while her mom, Penny Spearman,
and Judy Rhodes try to determine what areas of the annual festival they would like to participate.
"It takes an army of volunteers to conduct the annual fair," expressed Glenda Bassham, a member of the board. "And, we'll accept the help of anyone who is interested in helping conduct the fair!"
"We continue to want those who are interested
in helping with Fall Festival to give us a call and become involved," expressed Lisa Hooten, who is serving her second year as Fall Festival Board President. "To become involved, they need to give me a call at (903)945-3581 and leave a message. I will be more than happy to give them a call and tell them how to become involved!"
