Meets and Elects New Officers
Monday Night

In a Monday night meeting at the Century-21 offices on Gilmer Street, the Sulphur Springs Downtown Business Alliance met, discussing their program of work and electing officers for the coming year. The organization celebrated a year of activity in Sulphur Springs and an influence in the area. "We've managed to work together on a number of projects and make a difference," exclaimed outgoing president, Jennifer Allison. "Of course, there is plenty of opportunites for improvement, but at least we've made a beginning!"

DBA member Sandi Wallace, invited members to become actively involved in the Tourism Committee and to help in promoting tourism in the downtown area. "We can always use business owners who are passionate about increasing tourism traffic in the downtown area," stated Wallace.

In officer and board elections, the group named Rita Edwards, Tammy Oleague, and Allison to the board of the organization. And, in subsequent action, the board voted, Edwards, owner of Edwards Used Cars, as the new president of the organization. "I'm looking forward to leading this organization, with lots of help from all of the members," expressed an humble, Edwards. "I think we're all looking for the same ideals of promoting tourism and business in the downtown area of our city!"


Edwards announce that the next large project of the organization is a Car Show in the downtown area, on October 14th. The event has been dubbed "Heritage Square Rod Run" and will feature classic cars and a variety of events on the downtown square. Watch for additional information, as the project unfolds.

DBA member Vickie Lee, who chairs the Christmas Lighting Committee, updated the organization on the plans for the upcoming Christmas season and announced the fundraising activities that will unfold for the project. Plans are for a wonderful downtown display to celebrate the Christmas holidays.

The meeting ended with Allison thanking the members for a wonderful year of support and a challenge to continue working toward the ideals of the organization!
