Dixie Angel's World Series
In Action At Coleman Park
by: Bobby McDonald
Action in the Dixie Angel's World Series got underway on Saturday afternoon, following the opening ceremonies and if per chance you don't think the event is a "boon" to the local economy, all you had to do was try to find a place to eat, following church on Sunday. Players, coaches, and their families were "packed" into the local restaurants and motel rooms are at a premium. World Series organizers praised beautiful Coleman Park and the new facilities, but many complained that the Texas heat was even worse than "back home!"

License plates read Florida, South Carolina, Mississippi, Georgia, Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, Louisiana, and Arkansas, while our own Hopkins County Dixie Angels were moving their way through the winners bracket of the series.

In the first round of action, South Carolina defeated Mt. Pleasant, Texas 10-0, and Mississippi was the winner 12-7, over Florida. Tennessee took a 5-0 win over North Carolina and Virginia defated Georgia 8-6. Alabama "squeaked" by Lousiana with a 2-1 decision. The Hopkins County Angels soundly defeated Arkansas 12-4.

Our Hopkins County Angels defeated Alabama in another sound decision of 14-3, and draws a bye in the next round. They will be in action again, on Tuesday night, at 7:30 p.m. They will face the winner of the Monday night game hosted at 7:30 p.m., so local fans will want to be certain to watch that game and "size-up" the competition.

The locally hosted series will continue through Thursday, August 3rd, nightly, with games being played throughout the days. Make plans to go to Coleman Park and watch some of the best softball action around, and make certain that our many visitor feel welcome, while visiting Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County.

Welcome To
Hopkins County,
Dixie Angels!!!!
