"Practice Makes Perfect"
Rehearsals Begin For Dairy Festival Candidates
by: Bobby McDonald
Rehearsals for the Talent and Beauty segment of the 47th Annual Hopkins Dairy Festival Pageant are underway nightly in the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center Auditorium, where Queen Alina Tatum and each of the five Dairy Festival Queen candidates are working to perfect their routines for the Saturday night show. "The Talent and Beauty segment of the show is one of the most important for the candidates," explained veteran pageant coordinator, Lynda Hager. "We try to give them all of the practice time that they need and an opportunity to feel comfortable on the stage, as they deliver their performance."
Another Dairy Festival Board member, Patricia Chase, explained, "The practice nights give the girls an opportunity to get familiar with working with their talent routines and to walk through the entire performance a number of times. We don't want any surprises during the corregraphed performance for the audience on Saturday night. We want everyone comfortable and ready to give their best performance for the crowd and judges."

Dairy Festival Candidate Katie Watson goes through her routine of a song and skit
in practice for the upcoming pageant.

Queen Contestant, Whitney McDaniels, works with her musical instruments to obtain the
proper lighting and stage position for Saturday night's performance.

Queen contestant, Dichele Wiser, listens to her music as it is piped from
the sound booth, at the Civic Center, as she perfects the steps to her
presentation for the Talent and Beauty segment of the Dairy Festival.

Queen contestant, Kayla Morgan, goes through her routine, on stage,
at the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center, in preparation for
Saturday night's performance.

Katie Hettich works on her flag presentation, as she makes sure that
all of her props are correctly positioned and easily accessible for use
in Saturday night's performance.

Following rehearsals by all of the queen contestants, Dairy Festival Queen Alina Tatum went through her presentation of "I'll Always Love You," as she made microphone checks, speaker adjustments, and stage positions.
