Katie Watson Named
Dairy Festival Queen
At 47th Annual Pageant

by: Bobby McDonald

As the final curtain closed on nine days of activities and the last vote was cast, Katie Watson, daughter of David and Myra Watson, was crowned the 2006 Hopkins County Dairy Festival Queen at coronation ceremonies in the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center, Saturday night. Watson, an upcoming Sulphur Springs High School Cheerleader, charmed the crowd and the judges with her own rendition of "Popular," from the musical "Wicked." Watson had earlier placed third in the annual Milking Contest and rode on a float in last Saturday's Dairy Festival Parade with two other candidates. She will serve Hopkins County as an official ambassador at ribbon cuttings, pageants, and other events throughout the year.

Queen contestant, Kayla Morgan, was named First Runner-up during the coronation and will serve as queen, should Watson be unable to fulfill her duties, during the year. Morgan presented a monologue from the musical "Oklahoma," as she sang "I Just Can't Say No." Morgan, will also be an upcoming senior at Sulphur Springs High School, in the autumn, and is active in a number of activities, including the Lady Wildcat Volleyball Team.

Watson won the $500.00 scholarship given by the family of former Dairy Festival Queen Stephanie Longino Davidson, as the talent winner of the contest. Miss Congeniality was presented to Whitney McDaniel, as she was voted to be the best all-around by her fellow contestants. Watson won the the ticket sales award, for selling the most tickets to the pageant, and 2nd place in ticket sales was awarded to Dichele Wiser.
