Dairy Festival Food Show
Attracts Great Recipes & Talented Cooks

Saturday morning, June 17th, found a long line of folks waiting to have the chance to taste a wide-variety of dairy foods that had been entered in the annual Dairy Festival Dairy Food Show. "We have some wonderful cooks in Hopkins County and I believe they've brought their best to this year's show," expressed Dairy Festival Board Member Cindy Lancaster. "These foods look absolutely wonderful!"

County Extension Agent Johanna Hicks and her committee had earlier checked each of the recipes that had been entered and scored them on the merit of the use of dairy products. The foods came to Saturday morning's contest with a preliminary "recipe" score and awaited the judging panel to complete the scoring process.

Dairy Festival Board President Mary Crump and queen candidate Katie Watson, take an opportunity to
"sample" some of the great food brought to the contest. "It's all good!" exclaimed Crump.

 

There were a variety of cheesecakes, other desserts, main dishes, and even breads, that all utilized milk and dairy products. According to Hicks, the recipe must have at least two dairy products in the recipe and additional points are scored for those that use even more in their composition.

Judges had a difficult task of narrowing the field of great recipes to name the winners of Saturday's
Dairy Foods Contest.

Childrens Division:

Harley Wilburn's Peanut Butter Cheesecake took "Best of Show" honors in the Children's Division.

          1st Place Cheesecake - Harley Wilburn, Peanut Butter Cheesecake.     "Best of Show"

          1st Place Other Desserts - Courtney Neal - Banana Split Pie.

Courtney Neal's Banana Split Pie, won first place in the Other Dessert Children's Division.

         

Youth Division:

Orange Delight Cake, that was beautifully decorated.

 

          1st Place Cheesecake - Kaitlyn George - Raspberry Chipotle Cheesecake. "Best of Show"

          1st Place Other Desserts - Lori Baldridge - Layered Dessert.

 

 

Adult Division:

Judges and spectating tasters found Cindy Welch's Italian Cream Cheesecake wonderful,
as it won the "Best of Show" designation in the Adult Division.

 

          1st Place Cheesecake - Cindy Welch - Italian Cream Cheesecake. "Best of Show"

          1st Place Other Desserts - Patty Vaughn - Coconut Carmel Pie.

          1st Place Main Dish - Cindy Welch - Sour Cream Chicken Enchiladas.

Welch's Sour Cream Chicken Enchilada's captured the 1st Prize in the Adult Main Dish category.

Older Adult Division:

 

And, this cake captured a Class winning prize in Saturday's Contest.

          1st Place Cheesecake - Nancy Dietrich.
          1st Place Other Dessert - Kati Patterson - Bread Pudding.
          1st Place Main Dish - Nancy Deitrich - Sausage Pie. "Best of Show"

 

The Dairy Foods Show Committee has compiled a recipe book of all the entries in the 2006 Dairy Festival Food Show, and the book is available by contacting Johanna Hicks, at the Hopkins County Extension Office, by calling (903)885-3443.
