It Was Fish 'n Fun
In Cumby, Saturday Night

As thunderstorms seemed to build in the west, residents of Cumby gathered at the City Park and secretly hoped for some rain, as they supported the Cumby Volunteer Fire Department Fish Fry and Musical Show. "The way I look at it, we can't lose either way. We need a good rain, but the Cumby Fire Department needs our support," explained one Cumby resident waiting in line for his share of the all-you-can-eat fish. "I certainly wouldn't mind getting a  little bit wet, if we can get some rain for these parched and dry pastures!"

Cumby Fire Chief Evans introduces members of the department and outlines
the equipment that has been purchased, thus far, with monies raised.

The event was a fundraising effort for the Cumby Volunteer Fire Department, who hoped to raise a needed $3,000.00 to use as matching funds for a grant to purchase some much needed equipment for the department. "We've been approved for a Federal Grant and need to supply matching funds to aid us in getting the equipment," explained Cumby VFD Chief Evans, as he introduced members of the department and explained how the most recent funds had been used in purchasing department equipment.

All-you-can-eat fish and all the trimmings was offered to supporters of the Cumby Volunteer Fire Department,
as they lined-up in support of the department and their efforts to raise money for needed equipment.

"I'll support these boys all that I can," explained another Cumby resident. "With the dry conditions that this community has received last year and again this year, they are our only 'line of defense' should a grass fire break-out. They do their best to keep us all protected!"

These Cumby High School Cheerleaders were lending their support to the Cumby Volunteer Fire Department
fundraising effort, on Saturday night.

Community volunteers had caught the fish and were busy cooking fish to feed a large crowd of supporters, who stood in line, in support of the Saturday night fundraiser. A sound stage was provided and Country and Western music was being offered by area entertainers and the cooler temperatures were a welcomed relief from days of summer heat.

A variety of local musicians provided Country and Western music from the soundstage located in
Cumby City Park.

And, the Cumby Fire Department was the benefactor of the fish 'n fun in Cumby Saturday night.
