

Cumby Trojans Honored
At Annual Athletic Banquet

Cumby Athletic Director, Kent Hawthorne, served as the Master of Ceremonies, as a large crowd of Cumby Trojan fans and athletes gathered in the school cafeteria for the annual Cumby Athletic Banquet, on Tuesday night. Outstanding students in all sports were honored and the prestigious Trojan and Lady Trojan Athlete of the Year were awarded to the top students.

Top athletes at Cumby's Annual Sports Banquet, recognized Tuesday night, were Jake Petty and
Scarlet Tarno. Both students participate in a variety of sports. Petty is a senior and Tarno is a
sophomore.
Fighting Heart awards were presented to senior Dani Baur, left, and junior athlete Robert Baxter,
for their "can do" spirit and ability to be an inspiration to others!

Jake Petty, left, and Casey Romans were cited as the top athletes in Trojan Football. Petty was the MVP
Offensive Player, and Romans was the Defense MVP and "Milk"MVP.
Mary Ugalde, left, and Scarlet Tarno, were cited as the top Volleyball athletes and as the top
Girl's Basketball players for the Lady Trojans.
Coach Doug Johnson, left, recognized Jonathan Heer, as the top male athlete in the sport of golf,
at Tuesday night's banquet.

Justin O'Mara and Jake Petty were named the top Trojan Basketball players by Coach Johnson.
Kasidy Huddleston and Lindsey Lemon were awarded the top honors in the Lady Trojan Softball program.
Kristen Slaughter was cited as the top female golfer for the Lady Trojan Team for 2006.

Tops in Trojan Boys Track were Robert Baxter and Nathan Dunihoo.

Scarlet Tarno and Brooke Gay were cited as the top athletes in Girls Track and Field.
Jeffrey Smith was cited for the "Big Stick" Award in Boys Baseball, for having
the best batting average for the season, which compiled a 9-3 District Record.
Trojan MVP Josh Rodriguez was unavailable for a picture.

Hawthorne cited Jarod Tremor, Jonathan Heer, Casey Romans, and Mary Ugalde for their designation as All-State Academic Athletes, a combination of outstanding scholastics and athletic performance.

These sixth-graders were a portion of those athletes that represent the future of Trojan athletics,
as they represent those in lower grades, with aspirations of becoming a "Mighty Trojan!"
Tuesday night's banquet was sponsored by the Cumby Trojan Athletic Booster Club and featured a BBQ meal catered by Ernie's BBQ. The Booster Club elected officers at Tuesday night's event and the 2006-07 Trojan Booster Club officers will be as follows: President, Brian Seely; 1st Vice-President - Carol Anne Bullock; 2nd Vice-President - Keith Webb; Secretary - Lori Speights; and Treasure - Amber Gilbert.
