At Cumby

An announcement from Cumby High School Principal Don Madden named Jared Tremor and Mary Ugalde, as the top graduates of the 2006 Cumby High School Graduating Class. "We have two fine, hard working, students at the top of this class," expressed Madden, who is completing his first year as principal.

Valedictorian Jared Tremor, the son of David and Susan Tremor, has participated in a variety of school activities throughout his school career. He was a member of the football and golf teams, the Beta Club, and the Robotics Team. Jared served as Captain of the Literary Criticism Team, was NOSB captain, and was team captain for the UIL Social Studies Team, while participating in the one-act play, on several occasions. He was named to All-District Hon. Mention in Football, was a member of the All-District and All State Academic Football Teams, and wond the Principal's Award. Jared is an Eagle Scout and provided a marker in the Cumby Cemetery for the town's founder, as a part of his project.

Jared plans to attend Texas A&M University Commerce and pursue a major in English, where he hopes to become an English teacher and author.

Class Salutatorian, Maria Ugalde, is the daughter of Arsenio and Dula Ugalde and if four-year member of the Cumby High School Beta Club, serving as secretary of the club for the 2005-06 year. She has participated in the Gifted and Talented Program and was a member of the Roboitics Team in 2004.

Maria was captain of the Lady Trojan Volleyball Team and won All-District honors all four years of her participation. She lettered four years in Basketball and was 1st Team All-District in 2006. She was selected for the Texas Girls Coaches Associantion All-State Team in 2006, and has participated in varsity track and cross country competitions for the Lady Trojans. Maria serves as the Class Secretary for 2006 class. She plans to attend Paris Junior College and pursue a career in physical therapy.

Cumby High School graduation exercises will be on June 2, 2006, at Ferguson Hall, on the Texas A&M University-Commerce Campus, at 7:00 p.m.

The Cumby 8th grade graduation ceremonies will be conducted at Cumby School, at 7:00 p.m., June 1, 2006.
