The Second Annual Community Bank Corvette Show and Shine unfolded beneath the shade trees of Buford Park on Saturday, following the Dairy Festival Parade, with a throng of  spectators lined-up for the show. "I'm just trying best to keep from coveting," expressed one local young man, as he echoed the sentiments of almost everyone in the crowd. "These cars are truly wonderful!"

The classic Corvettes began arriving early Saturday morning, and many of them drove in the annual Dairy Festival Parade, to return to Buford Park for the show that began at 1:00. The heat was intense, but that certainly didn't have an effect on the number of spectators, who utilized the massive shade trees and came out to see these beautiful cars.

James Duck's 1959 Classic Corvette walked away with the People's Choice Award, voted on by all of the participants in the show. Duck is from Mt. Vernon. Duck's car won the 1953-1962 Model Category, as well.

In the 1968-1982 Model Category, Phillip and Karen Pitalo's, 1978 model car won the first prize. They are from Allen. And, Terrell's own Keith Pierce's 1978 model took second prize. Third prize was awarded to Tom Massey's 1980 model, from here in Hopkins County.

In the 1984-1996 Model Class, Denison's Jim Yeary won first prize with his 1987 model. And Bert Jones, of Sulphur Springs, took second prize with his 1994 model. Third prize was awarded to a 1990 model owned by Bill Beach of Quitman, and Ken Miller, of Sulphur Springs, took 4th prize with his 1994 model.

In the 1997-2004 Model Class, Charlie Magill, of Rockwall, took first prize with his 1998 model, and Danny Durham, of Sulphur Springs, took second prize with his 2003 model. Third place was won by Michael Duck, of Garland, with his 1998 model, and Phillip and Karen Pitalo took fourth prize with their 2003 model, from Allen, Texas.

In the 2005 and 2006 Category, Bobby Anderton's 2006 entry from Greenville, took home first prize. Second prize was awarded to Mt. Pleasant resident, Charles Taylor with his 2005 model, and Jack Ammons 2006 model, from Greenville was awarded third prize in the category.

There were forty-four car entered in this year's show, and David Brewer, organizer of the show, expects an even larger group of cars at next year's show, as all of the exhibitors indicated a love for Sulphur Springs and the hospitality of all the people here.
