October Landscape Award
Goes To Cook's Spooky Retreat
by: Bobby McDonald
Travel out College Street south, on out Crush Road, and turn left on CR-2339, wind around until you connect with CR-2315 and turn left. The Travis and Karen Cook home will be easily spotted, as it is the only one with a large purple spider sitting on top! Karen says that Halloween is her favorite holiday and the she just keeps adding something more, each and every year. Well, you can hardly think of anything that could be possible to add next year. There are giant spiders, a graveyard, coffin's, large pumpkins, a witch, and just about anything that would depict the Halloween theme.

Sue Hawkins McClure, right, presents the Front Porch News Landscape of the Month
to Travis and Karen Cook and "Twister," the family dog.
Travis and Karen invite anyone to come by and view the large Halloween display and have hosted several church and youth groups to come by on their hayrides and Halloween excursions.

Herman Monster and a jack-o-lantern are just a few of the inflatable figures displayed in the Cook's
winning landscape.
"It all got started when my daughter, Chaney Payne, wanted a Halloween party a few years back. We decorated and I've just kept adding some more each year," states Karen as she winds spider webs around the yard. "I enjoy it and it gives me something to come home from work and do every afternoon throughout October!"

A giant black widow spider graces the front yard and a "cemetery" sign near the mailbox leads you toward
the haunted portion of the landscape.
"I'm about give out and ready for Halloween to be over," declares Travis, as he adjusts another large inflatable pumpkin. "And, everytime you bring out one of these things, it means it has to be put back up, after Halloween!"

A ghost, spook, or goblin is at every turn!
You're sure to get in the Halloween spirit if you travel to the Cook home in the Thermo Community and after receiving a number of calls, our selection committee went out and agreed that this had to be October's Front Porch News Landscape of the Month!

Pumpkin and jack-o-lantern displays are everywhere.

And, who knows, you might even find your very own marker in the front yard cemetery?
