Como-Pickton Students Advance
To State UIL Competition

Students from Como-Pickton High School competed in Regional UIL Competition and two students won first place honors and will be advancing to the state competition. Erica Bryant won first place in the Informative Speaking Contest and Pamela Baxley placed first in the Headline Writing competition.

Como-Pickton senior, Micah Walden, placed 4th in the Informative Speaking Contest and won an alternate position to the state competition, and Madalyn Russell won 5th in the Poetry competition, and a 2nd alternate to state position.

Susan Miranda won 7th place in the Persuasive Speaking competition. And, Ashley Wooten placed forth in the Spelling and Vocabulary section, to win an alternate to state position. The Como-Pickton Team of Ashley Wooten, Chesley Walden, Paula Wygal, and Bethanie Stinson, was the 2nd place Team in the Regional Contest.



Additionally, Ryan Sharp, a freshman student at Como-Pickton, placed in the top half of the Social Studies competition in his first year to competed on the high school level. Baxley placed sixth in the Feature Writing competition and won 7th place in both the News Writing and Editorial Writing competitions.

Alyssa Taylor, another Como-Pickton competitor won 7th place in Headline Writing and 7th place in Feature Writing competition. Andrea France place 8th in the Feature Writing competions, also. The Como-Pickton Journalism Team garnered enough points to be declared the 2nd place team in the Regional UIL Competition meet.
