Train-Truck Collision Mar
Peaceful Saturday Morning
In Como
by: Bobby McDonald
What began as a rather peaceful morning in the eastern Hopkins County town of Como, ended in one man being care-flighted by medical helicopter to East Texas Medical Center, in Tyler, and a number of officers investigating an accident that occured when a truck and train collided in the city limits.
A feed truck driver, delivering feed for Crystal Feed Mill, in Como, attempted to cross the railroad tracks, as he delivered bulk feed to the Troy Hill Dairy, and was stuck by the west-bound train. On impact, the truck was severed leaving the bulk feed tank near the point of impact and carrying the cab of the truck, almost a mile down the track. When the train was able to stop, the chasis of the truck was still attached to the engine.
The accident that occured at approximately 11:05 a.m., was still under investigation at 12:30, and no report on the condition of the truck driver was available. No one on the train was injured. Investigating the accident was State Trooper Bill Reese, with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The overturned bulk feed tank portion of the truck was located beside the tracks, near the point of
impact, across the road from Custom Shutters, in Como.
