"A Nashville Star" to
Appear In Community Players
Production of "Who's Happy Now?"

by: Bobby McDonald

Look for a "Nashville Star," as he returns to his hometown to relive his former life in a small East Texas bar, where he grew-up, writing songs that his father never thought would lead him anywhere. That's the storyline of the Sulphur Springs Community Players' June production of "Who's Happy Now?" by Oliver Hailey. Corey Connally plays "Sonny," a young man who grew-up in his parents' bar and is constantly overshadowed with his father's criticism of his interest in music.

Cast members of "Who's Happy Now?" include left to right, Doug Connally, David Beckham,
Kimberly Gerald (seated), Pat Parker, and Corey Connally.

The production is directed by veteran director, Kyle Cosby, and will be presented at the Main Street Theater, June 1, 2, 3, & 4th, and a second run on June 8, 9, & 10th. Admission is $8.00 for adults and is recommended for mature audiences, because of language. Reservations are advised and tickets can be reserved by calling (903)885-0107.

Doug and Corey Connally portray Sonny and his dad, "Horace,"
in "Who's Happy Now?" and work on a conflict between father and son.

"This is a great play and the actors have worked really hard," expressed Cosby. "As a matter of fact, this very play is what got me interested in theater, over 20 years ago. So, it's kind of special to me!"

The production has some "surprises" and will keep the audience guessing about the final outcome of the play.

"I think most people in the audience can readily identify with the cast of characters, as they are more small town individuals, and have some of the same problems that residents of Hopkins County contend with," expressed Corey Connally. "And, my performance has really been fun, as I play the son of my own father's character. So, it's been fun working with my dad, all during rehearsals!"

"Sonny" plays the piano as his interest in music is developed while being reared in the family
bar, in a small East Texas town.

And, a drunken "Horace," doesn't seem to be too impressed with Faye Precious' singing, as she
sings a song written by Sonny.

Other cast members include: David Beckham, as the local bartender, "Pops," and Pat Parker as Sonny's Mom, Mary. And, Doug Connally, as Sonny's Dad, "Horace;" and Kimberly Gerald as the infamous, "Faye Precious." Watch for Virgina Alberts in a supporting role that will make you think, and think hard!

The play is sure to please those who enjoy live theater and are looking for a unique way to spend an evening of entertainment, where light comedy and drama blend for a pleasing performance.
