It Was All About
The Boys and Girls

The Hopkins County Regional Civic Center was transformed into a festive atmosphere on Saturday night, as patrons arrived in support of the local Boys and Girls Club, where they dined on great food, bid on a variety of donated items, and made donations to the local program. Preliminary figures estimated some $60,000.00 raised from the dinner proceeds, live auction, and silent auction.

Mayor Clay Walker and Boys and Girls Club Board Member, Johnny Stapleton, cook meat for Saturday night's fundraiser,
on a grill in front of the Civic Center, left, while right, these local ladies seem to enjoy being "pampered" at the event.

Local banker, Don Sapaugh, served as the auctioneer for the evening and the board of directors for the Boys and Girls Club, as well as many friends, cooked the meal on a grill at the front of the civic center. Musical entertainment was provided and the children who are a part of the local Boys and Girls Club provided their own entertainment, as well as dined with the patrons at the event.

State Representative Mark Homer, left, joined Vali and Bill Brannon and Lowell and Mary Cable
at Saturday night's Boys and Girls Club Dinner and Auction.

The local Boys and Girls Club provides after school and weekend activities for youth and strives to create a positive learning experience for the youth of Hopkins County.

An array of nice weekend get-aways were among the items in the
live auction, conducted by auctioneer Don Sapaugh.

And, a large grouping of smaller items found their way to the silent auction tables, to allow something
for everyone's budget.

Trips to the Mesquite Rodeo, a wine tasting tour, and a variety of other items were auctioned and brought funds to aid the organization. Live and silent auction items were donated by local businesses in support of the club's activities.

"It was a great time and going for such a worthwhile endeavor," exclaimed one patron. "The food was great; the fellowship was great; and the cause was most worthy of my support!"

These local patrons found time to visit during some of the breaks in the activities, Saturday night.

And, probably one of the more enthusiastic supporters at Saturday night's
fundraiser, was little Charlie Betts, who attended with her great-grandparents,
Bill and Lynda Hager.

Those in charge of the auction were still "tallying" figures and accepting donations on Saturday night, but the total was nearing sixty thousand dollars, with other pledges yet to be finalized. "It was a great effort and will be well spent on the future of our youth in Hopkins County," exclaimed local attorney and board member, Coy Johnson. "The boys and girls of Hopkins County will be the benefactors of this endeavor, and we all win when they develop into outstanding citizens!"
