For many families in Hopkins County, from the first of May until the middle of June, there is a full week of trips to the ballpark in Sulphur Springs, where a son or daughter is involved in weekly games and practices, learning the fundamentals of organized baseball and the joy of competition.

Of course, the T-Ball games are the beginnings of a long career for many youth, as they begin participation in sports. And, those seniors in high school, who just graduated and had successful seasons this year, had very fond memories of the games they played in Buford Park, when they began their careers.

"The T-Ball games are some of the most fun for youth, as they begin to learn how to play the sport and then, there is the 'cheering section' of parents, grandparents, and fans, who cheer them on with almost every play," expressed a veteran t-ball coach. "This is where we take it very slow and try to make certain that the youth learn the fundamentals of the game!"

Coaches are allowed on the field and do their best to make it a positive experience for the youth, as they demonstrate how the game is played and the steps that should be taken to learn the rules.

"And, there are some really amusing plays from the sidelines," expressed one interested grandmother. "The kids are so cute and formidable at this age. The kids truly can have fun and don't have all of the pressure that seems to develop as they get older and more competitive!"

The weekly rituals of practice and games are in "full swing" in Sulphur Springs, as families spend quality time with their children and interested adults devote hours of time to make certain that the youth of this community begin a positive career in organized sports!
