The Sulphur Springs Chapter of the Retired Senior & Volunteer Program (RSVP) hosted their annual Spring Awards and Volunteer Appreciation Banquet, at the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center, on Tuesday night. Susan Kahn, president of RSVP, gave a brief overview of the program and then, the awards were presented to those recognized for outstanding service.
Joyce Bateman, 2005 recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award, listed a long list of volunteer efforts, as she presented the 2006 Award to Billie Couthran. Among Couthran's many volunteer efforts, is her serving as president of the local RSVP Chapter and serving as a cook for the Meal-A-Day Program, that delivers hot meals to individuals unable to cook them for themselves.
Karon Weatherman, Activity Director at the Senior Citizen's Center, who received the 2005 Station of the Year Award, listed the many, many activities that the Hopkins County Military Coalition is involved with, as she named them the 2006 winner. Clayton McGraw accepted the award for the Military Coalition.

The speaker for the evening was unable to attend, so Michael Dodd, local vocalist, entertained the crowd with a very enjoyable evening of 40's and 50's music selections.
The RSVP Organization is open to anyone who enjoys doing volunteer work in the Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County area. Members must be over 55 years of age and have a desire to serve others.
