"Food, Fun, and
Finally A Diploma!"
SSHS Prepares For Graduation
Friday Night
by: Bobby McDonald
In the largest graduation event in Hopkins County, an army of people were actively involved on Friday morning decorating, rehearsing, and putting the final touches on preparations for the Sulphur Springs High School Graduation Exercises, to take place in the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center, at 8:00 p.m., tonight. A senior class numbering 265 students will receive their high school diplomas.
The staff at the Southwest Dairy Museum were attempting to decide how much ice cream, cherries,
and nuts it would take to feed 265 hungry senior students, as they donated the "fixings" for ice
cream sundaes at Graduation Celebration.
Meanwhile, as best anyone at the Southwest Dairy Museum could figure, an order for fifteen gallons of ice cream, two gallons of chocolate syrup, a gallon of strawberry topping, a gallon of caramel topping, two gallons of marshmallow cream, a case of whipped topping, four pounds of chopped pecans, and a lot of cherries, was the grocery list to make ice cream sundaes for the senior class at SSHS.

The SSHS Cafeteria was being transformed into a racing themed haven, for Graduation Celebration,
as the 2006 Class rehearsed their parts in the Civic Center.
And, parents, grandparents, and a host of volunteers were busy converting the SSHS Cafeteria into a "pit stop" for graduates, as a racing theme was being carried out in the decorations for the all-night Graduation Celebration, to begin immediately following commencement. Local businesses, sponsors, and the community have donated thousands of dollars worth of prizes to be awarded to seniors who attend the all-night party in their honor.

And, the Texas Hold'em Jail....is a much, much better alternative to a celebrating senior landing
in the real Hopkins County Jail!
The members of the senior class arrived early to practice their memorable walk across the stage, and teachers and class sponsors were frantically working on decorations, as they converted the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center Arena into an elegant stage, for the event. When most wouldn't believe that a rodeo arena could look elegant, the taskforce of veteran volunteers seem to always make it a beautiful event, with the aid of ferns, decorations, and the Civic Center Staff "rolling out the carpet" on the arena floor.

And, with the aid of decorations, these teachers were transforming the rodeo arena into a gala
decorated auditorium, to host 2006 Graduation.
With the largest group of seniors in history graduating in 2006, an expected overflow crowd will be assembled to mark the accomplishments of the 2006 class and seating will be a premium.
