It Was A "Pink" Hair Day
At Como-Pickton School
Thursday
by: Bobby McDonald
Students at Como-Pickton Elementary School found some "strange" looking characters in their classrooms on Thursday, when they arrived at school. They found some of their teachers and the school principal with "pink" hair. But, that was a good thing! A really, really good thing!
Teachers, Jodie Gardner, Karen Marts, and Kelly Shutt, and Elementary School Principal, Lydia Walden, had all promised the students in the 6th grade, that if they passed the reading and math section of their TAKS test, that they would dye their hair "pink." Well, the the results were received and the entire sixth-grade class passed both sections of the standardized test and the teachers and principal kept their end of the bargain!
"It's with pleasure that we were able to dye our hair pink," expressed 6th grade teacher, Karen Marts. "If my students put forth the effort to apply the things that we had learned and passed the test, then I certainly didn't mind dying my hair pink for one day!"

Como-Pickton 6th graders gather around their teachers, who wore pink hair to school on Thursday, when the
students excelled on their TAKS Tests, in reading and math.
"Now, tomorrow, that might be a different story," inserted teacher Jodie Gardner, with a laugh. "We do look a little bit strange in pink hair!"

"But, it is all for a very good cause and we're so very proud of our students," expressed teacher Kelly Shutt. "The students have worked hard and we had an outstanding showing in our 6th grade class!"
Fourteen members of the Como-Pickton 6th grade class were cited as "commended" in the math section of the test. "It was outstanding to have this many students reach this level of performance," inserted Mrs. Shutt. "It's a reflection on what wonderful students we have, to have a 36% commended level."
Equally impressive results were made on the reading section of the test. Twenty-one, or 52.5% of the 6th graders were designated as "commended" in the reading section."We're very excited about the reading section results, also," stated Mrs. Marts and Mrs. Gardner. "It means that our students are devoting time to studying and developing great learning habits!"
"I couldn't be any prouder of the students," expressed a jubilant principal, Lydia Walden. "They performed well on the test, as a result of their dedication to their studies and comprehending what they have been taught!"
Congratulations!
