Hosts Acappella Songfest

Quartets, groups, and congregational singing were all featured at the Songfest hosted by the League Street
Church of Christ Saturday night.
Old favorites, contemporary selections, and some new pieces were all featured in the First Annual League Street Church of Christ Songfest, beginning at 6:30 p.m., Saturday night, at the church. "I can't say enough about the great spiritual and uplifting songs that were featured tonight," affirmed Glenn Wilhite, one of the organizers of the event. "We experienced some great music here tonight, and I know the Lord is pleased with the presentation in His honor."

Songfest at League Street Church of Christ.
"His Harmony," a quartet from the Dallas Metroplex area was one of the featured groups and sang a range of songs from those that many of the elderly in the crowd remembered from their childhood, to songs that have been written by the group, and haven't been released yet. "It was a great range of songs and introduced those in attendance to some great new songs," denoted Mark Bell, another organizer. "It was great singing and the entire audience was uplifted in a very spiritual way. I look forward to an even larger group of participants and audience members, next year."
Some 300 people came to the Songfest and each left with a promise to mark their calendars for next year. "I'm really encouraged by our youth group who has practiced and worked really hard to be one of the featured groups," expressed Chris Shelby, Youth and Family Director at League Street. "They practiced really hard and have had an enjoyable time working on the selections that they sang."

"The Harvesters," a quartet of male singers from the Nash, Texas Area, was another featured group, that brought with them an outstanding selection of songs. And, they, likewise, presented such favorites as "In the Sweet By and By" and "The Old Rugged Cross," but brought with them some new selections that the congregation in Sulphur Springs may want to learn and include in their worship services.

"I was truly blessed by spending my Saturday night at the church," denoted Frances Lowe, a member of League Street Church of Christ. "The singing was great and I feel truly blessed for having made the effort to come. I can't wait for next year!"
Wilhite and Bell both expressed that plans are already being made for a larger selection of singers and of advertising the event in an even greater manner next year. "I'd like to see 500 or more people in attendance, next year, and eight or ten more groups on the program," expressed Wilhite. "It was truly a successful event that everyone enjoyed!"
